Living and Learning Community

Main Content

The School of Accoutancy is the only program which offers our majors the opportunity to participate in a Freshman Interest Group (FIG) which is a part of the College of Business and Analytics' Living and Learning Community (LLC). The College has a designated residence hall located next to beautiful Campus Lake which houses students who participate in the LLC. LLCs provide a space and a structure for people to interact with each other around a shared goal. Research indicates that students who participate in an LLC often have higher GPAs and are more likely to graduate on schedule. Students living in an LLC enjoy getting to know professors and classmates better, greater access to academic resources, and specialized programs right in their residence halls.

The School of Accountancy’s FIG adds an additional layer of support for our accounting majors. As a member of the FIG, you will be enrolled in several of the same courses as the other FIG members during your first semester. In additional, faculty and staff will come and have lunch with the FIG members every week during your first semester. As a FIG member, you will be included in all of the events and activities offered by the School of Accountancy from your first day on campus. We have found that students who participate in the FIG become more actively involved in the School of Accountancy and become members and leaders in the accounting student organizatons earlier in their college experience. In addition, the FIG students build great relationships with their peers who will be with them throughout their entire college career.
